ABOUT THE SYSTEM

Window installation system using blaugelb Triotherm+ pre-wall insulating frames

The installation of windows and doors has more or less remained the same since the introduction of the thermopane window and door frames on the UK market. The vast majority of window fitters use set screws and polyurethane foam. However, this classic window installation system is not optimal in conditions with higher thermal energy requirements.

requirements

There is now a new and much more efficient installation system suitable for new types of construction, especially energy-efficient houses and those meeting the nZEB standard. Here we present the installation system for windows and doors with blaugelb Triotherm+ pre-wall insulating frames.

It provides a superior level of window fitting for increased energy efficiency. The system is certified by the Passive House Institute, ift Rosenheim, and complies with the energy efficiency standards set by the nZEB cluster.

INNOVATION

The Triotherm+ system uses innovative thermal insulation and joinery technology for modern buildings, energy-efficient buildings and passive houses. In areas with cold climates and extreme temperature changes, the blaugelb Triotherm+ system is both a solution to reduce energy consumption at a time when energy is becoming increasingly expensive, and a reliable way to achieve the certification of energy-efficient homes.

QUALITY ASSEMBLY

The basis of the blaugelb Triotherm+ window installation system is formed by the rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS) profiles, the Hybrid Polymer Power Fix and the Frame screw Fix FK-T30. The interior and exterior sealing foils also play an important role here. They create a seal and ensure long-term quality installation by preventing mould growth where the joinery meets the masonry.

      FAQ

No! It is not necessary to plaster the house before installing the frames.

blaugelb Polymer Hybrid adhesive bonds very well to all types of masonry materials (brick with vertical cells, autoclaved cellular concrete, concrete, wood), but it is necessary to take into account the installation instructions such as cleaning the surfaces so that there is no oil from the formwork, bitumen, dust etc.

If you want to plaster before installing the frame system, however, then you should use a plaster recommended by a specialist and it should not be thicker than 2 – 3 mm.

If we install the windows in the frame, i.e. outside the wall, we shift the window to the outside and thus have light for a longer period of the day. This will give us a wider view when we look out of the window and comfort in two different respects. It is proven to save energy for the heating or cooling of rooms and avoids mould formation on indoor and lateral window areas.

The thermal conductivity is similar to that of stone wool, and the area where the frame is mounted is the area where the thermosystem is thinner and where heat loss occurs. Another drawback is that if the heat transfer occurs through the backing area it will also result in condensation, which leads to mould in those areas.

The frame reproduces the existing gap for the joinery. Measure the size of the gap and add 85 mm to the left and right for horizontals. The verticals will rest on the horizontals, meaning that they must be larger. The adhesive, the two continuous beads and the size given by the supplied tip, has a consumption of one 600 ml tube for 6 linear metres. There are a few fastening rules for the screws: at a certain distance from the corners, at the joint of the profiles, and at a certain distance between them, and the consumption is about 3 screws per linear metre. This includes the screws in the base of the support. The length of the screws is chosen according to the masonry in which they are fixed, and the diameter of the hole is very important. All these details can be found in the installation instructions. No other fasteners are required for the Triotherm+ frame system.

The window is secured directly in the frame. The mechanical fastening is performed directly into the frame. The recommendation regarding the area where the screws are to be fixed must be taken into account. From the exterior to the interior fixing is not performed in the first 35 mm, and from the interior to the exterior fixing is not performed in the first 10 mm. For fixing type RC1, more mechanical fixings of the joinery are required according to the diagram and for fixing type RC2, safety fixings are also required with blaugelb Protect clamps according to the diagram in the installation manual.

The installation of the frames should preferably be performed by carpenters, but it can also be performed by other people such as the craftsmen who build or install the thermosystem on the house.

A minimum of knowledge is required for the use of power cutting and drilling tools.

The tools required are a circular saw, rotary hammer, drill and screwdriver.

The system is tested and certified by ift Rosenheim, and the weight supported depends on the depth of the profile used and on the type of masonry to which it is fixed (e.g. the fixing area of a screw in concrete for a 70 mm profile supports 260 kg; if it is a concrete fixing of the base with 3 mounting screws in that area, it can support up to 530 kg.

Yes, even if the joinery is already installed, it can be moved from the existing gaps into the frame area. There are two common situations: the situation where the windows are installed directly against the wall and the building does not yet have the thermosystem installed, a situation in which it is very easy to install the frame and move the window into it. But we also have the situation where the external thermosystem is completed, in which the ‘disturbance’ will be greater. The area around the window must be cut to the masonry so that the frame can be fixed directly to the masonry.

Frames help us if we have situations where the masonry is not straight or if the gaps for the joinery are not at 90 degree angles and not in a line. Depending on the width of the hinge and the inclination of the masonry, we choose a profile for a wider frame in order to have enough area to adjust the verticality of the joinery. The frame needs to perfectly reproduce the contour of the gap; it can fit into the gap left for the joinery up to 25 mm. This must be taken into account, after which the adhesive bead will be moved so that it reaches the masonry.

Wood, PVC and aluminium joinery can be fitted. This can be fitted regardless of the width of the window or door frame because there are profiles available from 70 mm to 230 mm. We install windows, doors and a variety of special features such as tilt and turn, lift and slide or joinery panels.
